Creative Climate Fest, 2025, Kinetic Wind Model
This was a piece the manager of Scolton Manor, Mark Thomas, and I agreed would make an interesting model feature for our planned festival. I began the work in December 2024, collecting together pieces of wood from the edge of the park among the timber from its fir trees and fallen ash. It was then a question of ad hoc work, as and when it was possible for me to come in to Scolton and do a few hours of work on the piece. Gradually it came together, and by the time of the event it made a reasonably well-functioning piece of interactive sculpture – most of its components recycled Scolton wood, with the exception of screws and odd metal fixings. It had a small space allocated to it, very close to the overhanging banner with the title ‘Tilting at Windmills’!
